A Chinese scientist was arrested while arriving in the U.S. at the Detroit airport, the second case in days involving the alleged smuggling of biological material, authorities said Monday.

The U.S. has arrested a Chinese scientist, Zhengdong Cheng, on charges of visa fraud and attempting to send biological materials to China without a permit. Cheng, a professor at Texas A&M University, allegedly misrepresented his affiliations with Chinese institutions on his visa application. He was involved in research on H5N1, a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, and was found to have sent samples to China's Southern University of Science and Technology without proper authorization. This case adds to the growing tensions between the U.S. and China over scientific research and national security concerns.
