Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian is seeking the passage of a bill that renames the existing Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA) as the National Aviation Academy of the Philippines (NAAP) to promote aviation safety and security.
Senator Grace Poe has urged the establishment of a national aviation school in the Philippines to address the shortage of skilled aviation professionals, which has been exacerbated by the rapid growth of the aviation sector. During a Senate hearing, she highlighted the need for a dedicated institution to train pilots, aircraft mechanics, and air traffic controllers, pointing out that the current training facilities are insufficient. Poe emphasized that such a school would not only enhance safety and efficiency in air travel but also reduce the country's reliance on foreign training programs, which are costly and less accessible to many Filipinos. She also mentioned that the proposed school could be a public-private partnership, potentially located in Clark, Pampanga, to leverage existing aviation infrastructure.
