Zheng Yanxiong, the director of Beijing’s liaison office in Hong Kong, emphasized the importance of Hong Kong universities enhancing their global connections during a speech at the University of Hong Kong's 210th Congregation. He highlighted that universities should not only focus on local development but also on international collaboration to maintain Hong Kong's status as an international education hub. Zheng suggested that universities should leverage Hong Kong's unique "one country, two systems" framework to foster exchanges and cooperation with both mainland China and the rest of the world. He also encouraged universities to contribute to national development by aligning their research and educational strategies with national priorities, thereby promoting Hong Kong's integration into the broader national context while preserving its international character.
