ABERDEEN, S.D., Aug. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless today announced it is bringing the nation's largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to Aberdeen, S.D. on Aug. 16. The new market launch will provide customers in Aberdeen access to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Network to locally surf the web, stream music and video, quickly access over-the-air applications, and stay in touch with family and friends at speeds up to 10 times faster than before.

When Verizon Wireless 4G LTE launches in the city of Aberdeen new coverage will also extend east along U.S. Highway 12 to Groton, including the town of Bath. Verizon Wireless initially launched its 4G LTE network in South Dakota in Sioux Falls on June 1, 2011 followed by Rapid City, S.D. on Nov. 16, 2011. This year the company has also launched its 4G LTE network in Pierre, Mitchell, Brookings and Madison as well as communities east and west of Rapid City in a market expansion.

"When we launch our 4G service in Aberdeen, Verizon Wireless customers with 4G LTE smartphones, tablet and other devices, will have direct access to the superfast speeds that are available in 337 other markets today," said Seamus Hyland, president-Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless "We are continuing infrastructure preparations to bring our 4G LTE network to additional areas of South Dakota."

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
