Demonstrations at the Xilinx booth, #205 Hall 1, will leverage the strengths of Xilinx programmable devices including [ 7 series FPGAs ] and the [ Zynq™-7000 extensible processing platform (EPP) ], which feature innovations such as Xilinx's [ Agile Mixed Signal (AMS) ] analog interface and 28nm High-Performance Low-Power (HPL) FPGA process technology. Moreover, they will show how Xilinx is transforming beyond a traditional FPGA supplier to a much broader programmable platforms provider, enabling developers to build better embedded systems faster. Expansion initiatives and a growing support ecosystem, including Targeted Design Platforms (TDPs), plug-and-play IP, optimized operating systems, virtual platforms, next-generation design tools, and Xilinx Alliance Program members, contribute to an enhanced level of value in the embedded design process.

Extensible Processing with Zynq-7000 EPP

Visitors will be able to explore the value the Zynq-7000 EPP brings to embedded systems, with eight demonstrations showing how tight integration of the dual ARM Cortex™-A9 processors with Xilinx's scalable 28nm programmable logic architecture open new design avenues for developers. The demonstrations will include examples of image processing and HD-video processing using this dual core processor with hardware acceleration; an Android application developed with Xilinx Alliance Program member iVeia; dual-OS operation on the two Cortex-A9 cores running Free-RTOS and Linux in AMP mode, and a closed-loop real-time visual tracking system.

Other demonstrations will show some of the tools now supporting Zynq-7000 EPP development, which include Lauterbach Trace32 and ARM Development Studio 5 (DS-5) for debugging, as well as the Zynq-7000 EPP Virtual Platform developed with Cadence for software developers to begin early operating systems porting, device drivers writing and applications development.

7 series Agile Mixed Signal and Low-Power Design Focus

Also at the booth will be Xilinx's new AMS Evaluation Card and software that allows users to quickly and easily evaluate the performance of the dual 1MSPS, 12-bit, analog-to-digital converters (ADC) as well as temperature and supply sensors available in all 7 series and Zynq-7000 EPP devices. The signal-processing capabilities inherent in Xilinx devices can also be used to enhance the performance of the ADCs.

Attendees will also be able to see the 7 series FPGA Power Advantage demonstration that will use a Kintex™-7 FPGA to show how Xilinx's 28nm HPL process and user-controlled power reduction innovations enable dramatic reductions in static and dynamic power consumption compared to previous FPGA generations and competing solutions.

Commitment to Industrial and Automotive Markets

Xilinx is also underlining its commitment to the industrial and automotive sectors at Embedded World, with six market-oriented booth features. A demonstration using the National Instruments LabVIEW Robotics Starter Kit, enabled by the Xilinx Spartan®-6 FPGA and featuring the embedded National Instruments Single-Board RIO, will present a programmable solution for smooth robotic movement and control.

In addition, visitors will be able to see low-EMI, deterministic, scalable motor controls built using a combination of Avnet's Spartan-6 FPGA Motor Control Development Kit and the Motor Control IP set from Xilinx Alliance Program member, QDESYS. There will also be an industrial rail-cart demonstration combining Xilinx FPGAs with four-axis motor-drive hardware by Xilinx Alliance Program member, Prodrive. This will show how developers can integrate cost-effective and scalable network interfaces into industrial automation sub-systems.

A demonstration showcasing the value of Zynq-7000 EPP for industrial control applications will combine closed-loop motor control with object recognition and visual tracking. This will show how common industrial operations can be accomplished using a cost-effective, low power, programmable single-chip solution.

Finally, demonstrations will include the Xilinx Driver Assistance Surround View Targeted Design Platform, showing how the parallel processing and time-slicing capabilities of FPGAs enable features such as rear-view parking, blind-spot detection, surround-view and pedestrian detection to be co-hosted in a single device. The TDP has processing for up to four camera inputs to generate a 3D image of the vehicle environment from any viewing perspective. There will also be standalone demonstrations showing audio/video networking and pedestrian detection.
