Big Data Drives StorNext Growth
With over 60,000 client licenses sold, organizations continue to select StorNext to help manage and leverage their growing amount of big data. Its flexibility and adaptability provide a unique value-add for managing this data across a broad set of applications. Examples include:
- Helping research institutes accelerate genomic sequencing, where advanced scientific instruments generate streaming terabytes of big data on a daily basis;
- Enabling government agencies to leverage large data output from sophisticated imaging and data capture technologies through high-performance sharing and archiving of this highly sensitive and detailed information; and
- Extending StorNext's success in managing big data in the Media and Entertainment industry to corporations where departmental video management, such as editing of videos for sales training or marketing materials, is needed to cost effectively keep and reuse content for extended periods of time.
In all these industries, StorNext's integration of a high-performance file system with cost-effective tiered archive capabilities provides customers with a unique solution designed to handle big data growth economically. In fact, StorNext is often the only scale-out file system that can successfully manage the data workload found in these varied environments.
"[ lynda.com ] produces and stores thousands of online training videos and efficiently delivers them to a fast growing membership base," says Joe Alfaro, senior vice president of Engineering at lynda.com. "Quantum's StorNext file sharing software provides high-speed access to all our video content, which enables us to quickly produce these course materials. Additionally, Quantum's StorNext AEL Archive product brings the benefit of intelligently managing all of our videos' storage life cycles in a cost-effective manner."
"Quantum's StorNext is squarely aimed at a range of markets where high performance and lowest long-term storage cost is a priority," said Mark Teter, CTO at Advanced Systems Group. "This includes optimizing operational workflows for big data, such as streaming media content or manipulating large analytical data files. StorNext is one of the highly prized jewels in Quantum's product portfolio."
New StorNext Offerings Simplify Big Data Management
In early September, Quantum announced an expansion to its StorNext appliance family, and these latest solutions are now generally available. Built to leverage industry-proven StorNext software, they deliver unparalleled performance, flexibility and cost-effectiveness for big data management.
The new StorNext Q-Series Storage offerings are disk-based systems that are optimized, validated and supported by Quantum for use in StorNext environments. The StorNext Q-Series can be purchased through Quantum and its worldwide channel partners as an optional storage solution along with StorNext software and StorNext appliances. Base model list price begins at $96,000.
Additionally, Quantum is now shipping the StorNext AEL500 Archive, a cost-effective tiered storage solution with long-term data integrity checking and slot-based pricing. The midrange StorNext AEL500, as well as the StorNext AEL6000 for enterprise environments, is available now through Quantum and its worldwide channel partners. Base model list price for the StorNext AEL500 is $101,000.
"Advancements in digital technologies and continuous uses for archived content are driving the need to access and share extremely large files at high speeds," said Janae Stow Lee, senior vice president, Filesystem and Archive Product Group, Quantum. "StorNext has been at the forefront of this big data movement with over 60,000 StorNext clients deployed. The general availability of the new StorNext appliances demonstrates our continued commitment to sharing our expertise and helping companies cost-effectively manage and maximize the value of their big data assets."
