ATLANTA--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Acuity Brands ] (NYSE: AYI), a market leader in innovative energy efficient lighting and control solutions, was chosen to provide an optimal lighting solution for a new Boeing production facility via its [ Holophane® ] Enduratron® brand of highbay luminaires. The Holophane brand has been a recognized leader in high-quality and lowest total cost of ownership lighting solutions for commercial, industrial, and outdoor applications for over 110 years.

A new state-of-the-art Boeing® 787 production facility, located in North Charleston, S.C., is under construction and is incorporating a number of sustainable design concepts to achieve a goal of LEED® Silver certification. The new 240 acre Charleston site will house production for both Boeing and its Global Aeronautica joint venture. This indoor production facility will perform fabrication, assembly, and integration of fuselage sections and is designed to accommodate the final assembly of Boeinga™s new 787 Dreamliner passenger jet. It is large enough to accommodate six complete aircraft in production at any one time. Construction began on this facility in June 2010 and aircraft production is scheduled to begin in July 2011.

BRPH, an internationalarchitecture and engineering firm that is a leader in planning, design, engineering, and construction of [ aviation ]and [ aerospace ]facilities, in a joint venture with Turner Construction and BE&K Building Group, specified the lighting products for this new facility. The Holophane [ Enduratron ] product was selected for this mammoth space because of its ability to deliver both strong horizontal and vertical illumination. With the luminairea™s highly-advanced electronic ballast technology, it provides optical and electrical efficiency, a critical ingredient for the facility achieving LEED® Silver certification. In addition to the Holophane high-bay luminaires in the production area, numerous other Acuity Brands products were selected by the installing contractor for general illumination applications within the facility, including fluorescent, HID and emergency luminaires from the companya™s [ Lithonia Lighting® ] and [ Peerless® ] brands.

The Enduratron luminaire is part of Holophane's [ Elite Series ], which brings to market a number of technologically advanced products that deliver optimized performance, thermal management and energy efficiency. With its next generation electronic HID ballast, the Enduratron provides an optimal solution that meets the highest standards of lighting requirements.
