INGENICO: Best-of-breed alliance to pioneer secure, online, in-flight payment solutions
NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE, FRANCE--(Marketwire - November 19, 2009) - Best-of-breed alliance to pioneer secure, online, in-flight payment solutions
Ingenico, AviIT and OnAir collaboration will help combat multi-million euros credit card fraud
Ingenico, the world's leading provider of payment solutions, has announced a strategic alliance with best-of-breed solution providers to develop automated in-flight solutions that provide authenticated, secure payment transactions in real-time via commercial satellite communications links. The collaboration sees Ingenico partnering with AviIT, a provider of specialist IT-based solutions for the aviation industry, and OnAir, a provider of in-flight communications.
Ingenico's new iPA280 Payment PDA is the key component of this solution, providing a ruggedised, secure EMV payment platform with full Point of Sale capabilities running on Windows CE. Combining secure card payment and PDA functionality, the unique all-in-one iPA280 transforms the sales environment into a mobile POS, offering superior quality of service and a complete purchasing experience.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has stated that payment card fraud costs the airline industry an estimated US$1.4 billion annually. By providing online authentication of the transaction to help tackle credit card fraud, the collaboration will revolutionise the offline payment methods currently used in-flight by airlines globally. The alliance will also utilise solutions that maximise additional revenue opportunities and reduce settlement time.
David Brown, CEO, AviIT said "We are delighted that the Ingenico product has been launched as it provides us with a fully integrated, powerful terminal that we can host our innovative applications on. The iPA280 terminal together with the ability to use the OnAir connectivity provides an excellent platform for our applications and will allow us to offer airlines services such as real time in-flight changes to flight itineraries, reduced risk credit card processing and new retail opportunities all of which will enable enhanced ancillary revenue generation."
Craig Doyle, Managing Director at Ingenico Northern Europe and Australia said : "Following our recent Ryanair partnership, this is another statement of intent - we aim to lead innovation across multiple sectors and will partner with best-of-breed solution providers to achieve this goal. The airline industry is striving to improve its customer service and make the whole experience of flying, from check-in to destination arrival, as convenient and simple as possible. In parallel, airlines are under increasing pressure to cut costs to help counter shrinking margins while at least maintaining market share,""To make a substantial reduction in credit card fraud, airlines need to move on from offline magnetic strip and offline payments and embrace chip and PIN with real-time online authentication."
