Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust Wins Prestigous e-Health Insider Award for Aruba Wireless Deployment
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - November 10, 2009) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (
SUHT first deployed an Aruba wireless LAN in 2006 to deliver high resolution imaging to operating theatres, and has since expanded the network to provide mobile voice and data access across the entire site. Aruba's Remote Access Point (RAP) technology provides the communication infrastructure for SUHT's Wireless Remote Access Program, which extends the hospital's network to the homes and satellite offices of the hospital's medical consultants. The program has fundamentally changed the way in which consultants work, reducing delays in diagnosis and speeding treatment of time-critical illnesses.
"People who deliver healthcare services rarely sit at a desk for long, and they need immediate access to information while on the move," said Jon Hoeksma, editor e-Health Insider. "By extending its secure wireless network to remote sites without losing functionality or compromising security, SUHT has demonstrated how wireless technology can improve patient care and increase staff efficiency. It is for this accomplishment that SUHT stood out among the many contestants we considered, and won the award for the best use of wireless in healthcare."
Aruba's RAP technology delivers the enterprise network to remote locations and mobile users, offering the security of a VPN without the overhead or expense of managing client software. Ideally suited for branch offices, telecommuters, and business continuity applications, RAP uses Ethernet or broadband cellular to network users anywhere.
"This award is the culmination of a wireless program that has steadily expanded since we upgraded to Aruba's wireless LANs three years ago," said Ryan Hewitt, Network Manager at SUHT. "The wireless network on our campus has received very positive response from our care staff and patients. More significantly, the Wireless Remote Access Program is a major success, and contributes to saving lives both at the hospital and at remote care centres all along the south coast and Channel Islands. We're honored that e-Health Insider magazine and their sponsor recognize the value and benefits of SUHT's wireless deployment."
