SUNNYVALE, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--NetApp (NASDAQ:NTAP) today was ranked by FORTUNE magazine as number one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For." This is the second year it has achieved a top-10 ranking and the third consecutive year it has been named in the top 15. An egalitarian culture, salary, unique benefits, and a down-to-earth management style are attributes that have catapulted the company to the number-one spot for 2009. NetApp chairman and CEO Dan Warmenhoven believes this success is a result of the company's continued commitment to embracing the values of what he calls a "model company."

"We are excited and honored to be on the top of FORTUNE's prestigious list. Our employees are the heart of our company and the strength of our global culture," said Warmenhoven. "That culture values teamwork, productivity, leadership, and innovation. It helps us create bigger customer breakthroughs, retain top talent, and deliver greater shareholder returns. I am very proud of what we have accomplished — and what our employees cherish every day: a collaborative workplace that achieves great results."

To pick the "100 Best Companies to Work For," FORTUNE works with Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of [ The Great Place to Work® Institute ] to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. This year, 353 companies participated in the survey. Two-thirds of a company's score are based on the Institute's survey, which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees. The remaining third is based on a company's responses to the Culture Audit Questionnaire, which asks detailed questions about demographics; pay and benefits; and open-ended questions on philosophy, communication; and more.

FORTUNE magazine compiles and selects the "100 Best Companies to Work For" list every year from a pool of eligible U.S.-based applicants.
