In spite of intensive research, glioblastoma remains one of the most lethal types of brain cancer. Temozolomide (TMZ) is used as the front-line medicine in its treatment.

The article from MSN discusses a significant advancement in the treatment of glioblastoma, a highly aggressive brain cancer known for its resistance to chemotherapy. Researchers at the University of Gothenburg have identified a new approach to overcome this resistance by targeting the tumor's microenvironment. They discovered that glioblastoma cells can manipulate their surroundings to evade chemotherapy, particularly by altering the extracellular matrix (ECM) which supports the tumor's growth and survival. By using a combination of drugs that not only target the cancer cells but also modify the ECM, they were able to enhance the effectiveness of temozolomide, a standard chemotherapy drug for glioblastoma. This dual strategy has shown promising results in reducing tumor growth and increasing survival rates in preclinical models, offering hope for more effective treatments in the future.
