The Path to Stability
For AXT to overcome these headwinds, a transition from a volume-centric model to a value-centric model is required. This involves focusing on high-margin, specialized substrates tailored for the AI and photonics sectors rather than relying on commoditized RF wafers.
Operational efficiency is the other half of the equation. Reducing the cost of goods sold (COGS) through improved yield rates and the optimization of energy usage in fabrication is essential. If the company can lower its break-even point, it becomes significantly more resilient to the cyclical nature of the semiconductor market.
