  • The New York parks department awarded the Tesla Science Center a $500,000 grant to support the laboratory's post-fire restoration efforts.

The Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, the site of Nikola Tesla's last remaining laboratory, suffered a devastating fire on November 21, 2023. The fire, which started in the early morning, caused significant damage to the building's roof and second floor, though the main structure remained intact. Firefighters managed to control the blaze within two hours, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The center, which was in the midst of a $20 million restoration project, has launched a fundraising campaign to cover the repair costs, estimated at $3 million. This incident has not only affected the physical structure but also the ongoing efforts to preserve Tesla's legacy and transform the site into a museum and science center.
