  • THE Department of Science and Technology-Region 1 (DOST-1), through its Provincial Science and Technology Office-Ilocos Norte (PSTO-IN), has embarked on a transformative initiative to improve Laoag City's transportation system.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in the Philippines has partnered with the local government of Laoag City to enhance its transportation system. This initiative includes the introduction of a smart traffic light system aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving road safety. The project, which is part of DOST's broader Smart and Sustainable Communities program, will utilize advanced technology to optimize traffic flow, decrease waiting times at intersections, and integrate real-time traffic data management. This collaboration not only seeks to modernize Laoag's infrastructure but also to set a model for other cities in the Philippines, promoting efficiency and sustainability in urban planning.
