ARCAL marks 40 years of promoting nuclear science and technology to drive socioeconomic progress in Latin America and the Caribbean

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) commemorated the 40th anniversary of the ARCAL (Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean) program, highlighting its significant contributions to socioeconomic development in the region. Since its inception in 1984, ARCAL has facilitated over 300 technical cooperation projects, focusing on areas like health, agriculture, environment, and energy. These initiatives have led to advancements such as the use of nuclear techniques for cancer treatment, improving food security through better crop varieties, and enhancing water resource management. The program has also played a crucial role in fostering regional collaboration, capacity building, and the peaceful use of nuclear technology, thereby promoting sustainable development across Latin America and the Caribbean.
