  • If approved, the merged company would leapfrog EE's 25 million customers and O2's 24 million to serve 27 million Brits. Vodafone and Three will have to confirm what the new entity will be called, and whether existing customers will pay the same fees they have currently agreed to on their existing mobile plans.

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has provisionally approved the merger between Vodafone and Three, a deal valued at £15billion, after an initial investigation found no significant threat to competition in the mobile market. This decision comes despite concerns from rivals like BT and Virgin Media O2 about potential price hikes and reduced consumer choice. The CMA's preliminary findings suggest that the merger could lead to benefits for consumers, potentially through improved network quality and coverage, as both companies have committed to significant investments in 5G technology. However, the CMA will conduct a more in-depth Phase 2 investigation to further assess the impact on competition, pricing, and service quality before giving final approval.
