Taiwan's science minister says the U.S. is the world leader in chip fabrication
- TSMC plans to transfer 2nm production to "friendly nations" once the company starts work on the next node after 2nm.
TSMC, the world's leading semiconductor foundry, has announced plans to transfer its advanced 2nm chip production to the United States after 2025. This decision comes in response to increasing geopolitical tensions and a push for more domestic semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S. The move is part of a broader strategy to diversify its manufacturing base and reduce reliance on Taiwan amid concerns over potential supply chain disruptions. TSMC's expansion into the U.S. includes setting up facilities in Arizona, supported by significant investments and incentives from the U.S. government under the CHIPS and Science Act. This shift aims to bolster the U.S. semiconductor industry, enhance national security, and ensure a stable supply of cutting-edge technology components.
