SIMI VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 8, 2012) -  Qualstar Corporation (NASDAQ: [ QBAK ]), a manufacturer of data security and archive storage solutions and high efficiency power supplies today announced that all models of its RLS and XLS tape libraries are available for immediate shipment with LTO 6 drives. LTO 6 tape drives will also be released for upgrades to Qualstar's large installed base.

LTO 6 delivers 2.5 terabytes native capacity per tape, and 6.25 terabytes per tape with typical data compression, increases of 66% and 200% respectively, over the current generation. The new drive's data transfer rate performance also grew to 160 megabytes per second to keep pace with overall system requirements.

Qualstar's RLS Rack Mount Libraries expand from 50 tape slots to over 470 slots in a single 19-inch rack to now store over 2.9 petabytes of data. Qualstar's XLS Enterprise Libraries scale from 350 tape slots to more than 11,700 slots, yielding over 73 petabytes of storage using the new LTO 6 technology. 

Qualstar will show LTO 6 drives its RLS and XLS Tape Libraries in booth 4251 at SC12, the IEEE's annual supercomputing conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Nov. 12 - 15, 2012.
