Maxwell Technologies SA's CONDIS® low-temperature products eliminate the requirement to install costly heating systems to ensure reliable operation of grid infrastructure in arctic climates. The newly developed and qualified low-temperature products include capacitors for live tank (LT), dead tank (DT) and gas insulated switchgear (GIS) circuit breakers (CB), and CVD products as part of capacitive voltage transformers (CVT).
Maxwell already has delivered the first sets of LT and GIS capacitors for grid infrastructure installations in Siberia and Canada.
"We undertook development of these products in response to industry demand for more cost-effective and reliable components to enable delivery of electrical energy to arctic regions such as Alaska and northern Russia and Canada," said Sacha Jenny, vice president and general manager of Maxwell SA. "These low-temperature capacitors and CVDs will give our customers a real competitive advantage, and because they are the industry's first products of their kind, we believe they will enable Maxwell to expand its presence and reinforce its leadership position."
Maxwell is a leading global supplier of high- and medium-voltage capacitor and CVD products for applications in electric utility infrastructure, rail transportation systems and other applications involving transport, distribution and measurement of electrical energy. CONDIS® capacitor products perform reliably for decades in dead tank, live tank and other high voltage circuit breaker and transformer applications. CONDIS® capacitive voltage dividers are used to measure voltage and power levels in overhead transmission lines.
CONDIS® products are recognized for their world class quality and reliability, electrical & mechanical strength, long lifetime and their ability to be tailored to individual customer requirements. Maxwell's fully automated winding and assembly processes, ensure absolute product uniformity and superior performance and reliability. Key user benefits include:
- Minimal variation of electrical performance throughout the product life time
- High temperature stability
- Compact size and lower weight
- Reduced capacitor costs
