OMNIMETRIX & Ocean County, NJ Keep Essential Services Running -- BUFORD, Ga., Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

BUFORD, Ga., Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- OMNIMETRIX, LLC, an Acorn Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ ACFN ]) company that provides back-up power monitoring services, has proved invaluable to Ocean County, NJ.  Ocean County, one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy, has been able to keep essential services running through the use of generator back-up power.  100% of the county's generators, all monitored by OMNIMETRIX, started without failure.  This level of reliability is in stark contrast to the many news- making failed generators up and down the East Coast.

The generators are providing power to emergency 911 centers, jails, bridges and dams, water treatment plants, court houses, police departments, and fire stations.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that cities and essential services must have detailed contingency plans that include the ability for all infrastructure components to be intelligent.  This intelligence can take on many forms but all must have some wireless communication component, connectivity between machines and back-up power to ensure reliability.  Eventually it will become standard practice for critical infrastructure to not only have back-up power but for that power to be monitored to ensure reliability.

"Because the OMNIMETRIX device monitors hundreds of data points and provides current and historic performance data, this county has remote visibility into the functionality of its back-up power.  This visibility allows them to conduct proactive maintenance year round and respond to the fuel consumption of these generators to help ensure these critical areas maintain power," said Deena Redding, President of OMNIMETRIX.
