Synodon Completes realSens ™ Condensate Detection Demo for Keyera

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 31, 2012) - Synodon Inc. ("Synodon") (TSX VENTURE:SYD) announces that as part of a recent customer survey for Keyera Energy ("Keyera"), its realSens™ technology successfully demonstrated its ability to detect hydrocarbon plumes released from condensate mixtures provided by the customer. The demonstration was organized at the request of Keyera. These results build on the previously announced pentane detection test as well as a subsequent gasoline detection test performed over the summer. Full reports for these tests are available upon request.

During the demonstration, condensate vapour plumes were released from a small custom evaporator at 17 different flow rates while realSens™ passed over the leak area. The data analysis showed that the condensate plumes were detected with 95% reliability for rates of less than 0.05 litres per minute. Overall, liquid condensate release rates varied from 0.047 to 0.282 litres per minute. The condensate composition had traces of C1-C4 and roughly 43% of C5+, 20% of C6+ and 34% of C7+.

"This customer demonstration further validates the ability of the realSens™ technology at detecting very small liquid hydrocarbon leaks while airborne" stated Adrian Banica, CEO of Synodon Inc. "We have now proven the effectiveness of this technology using pure pentane, gasoline as well as condensates. In a practical setting, if a hydrocarbon liquid contains 5% low end hydrocarbons by volume (as is the case with West Texas Crude Intermediate), the smallest equivalent detectable product leak rate would be less than 1 litre per minute or 0.005% of the flow in a medium sized 200,000 bpd pipeline. The detectable leak size will be even smaller for products with a higher concentration of light hydrocarbons."

Synodon's service offerings have recently been expanded and now include:

  • realSens™ Liquid Hydrocarbon Leak Detection
  • realSens™ Natural Gas Leak Detection
  • Pipeline Threat Assessment
  • Right-of-Way Change Detection
  • Tree Canopy Encroachment
  • Water Crossings Analysis
  • Pipeline Location Classification

Combined, these services provide a complete aerial pipeline integrity management solution to both liquid hydrocarbon and gas pipeline operators.

Synodon Inc. ([ www.synodon.com ]) is a technology company which has developed an advanced airborne remote gas sensing system called realSens™, based on technologies developed under the Canadian Space Program and by Synodon scientists. The company provides a full service gas emissions monitoring and quantification service to a variety of industries, including hydrocarbon (oil and gas), environmental and agricultural, and for a variety of gases including methane, ethane and ammonia.
