SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: [ EXTR ]) today announced it will be showing new software supporting OpenFlow and software-defined networks at the Open Networking Summit (ONS) from April 16-18 in Booth #18 at the Marriott hotel in Santa Clara, CA.

Shehzad Merchant, vice president of technology for Extreme Networks, will also present in a panel discussion on April 17 on standardization and adoption of software-defined networks (SDN). "Looking at SDN Beyond the Data Center," will explore how software-defined networking is being applied in OpenFlow customer trials run by Extreme Networks.  The customer trials are focused on workflow management and zero-touch network provisioning using heterogeneous hypervisor technologies.

Throughout the event, Extreme Networks will demonstrate the OpenFlow 1.0 protocol implemented on its [ Summit® ] Ethernet switches running the [ ExtremeXOS® ] operating system. Summit switches will create a physical network topology that can be virtualized through the use of OpenFlow. Several aspects of network virtualization will be demonstrated, including flexible definitions of virtual networks, dynamic scaling of the virtual networks and isolation of the virtual networks from physical network changes.

The Open Networking Summit brings together thought leaders, creators and innovators of OpenFlow and Software-Defined Networking for data centers, service providers and enterprise networks. Its technical and education sessions offer a forum to share OpenFlow research results and to discuss the SDN standardization process.
