CONCORD, ON, Jan. 4 /CNW/ - RuggedCom Inc. ("RuggedCom") (TSX:RCM), a leading provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, today announced that it has received a purchase order totalling over $US 2.1 million for products used to build the Ethernet communications infrastructure in wind power generation facilities in China. Expected shipments are to be spread out over the next twelve months.

"This order represents RuggedCom's continuous penetration into the wind power generation market but most importantly into the Chinese market," explains Marzio Pozzuoli, President and CEO of RuggedCom. "Our intention is to continue to focus resources and efforts to grow both these markets."

The order is comprised primarily of RuggedCom's award winning RuggedSwitch(R) family of substation hardened Ethernet switches which are used for the wind turbine control system and are interconnected throughout the wind farm. One of the key selling points was RuggedCom's industry leading RuggedRated(TM) feature set for all its products. RuggedRated(TM) products meet or exceed a wide range of electric utility industry standards (such as IEC61850, IEEE1613); provide a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and heavy electrical surges; feature a wide operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C (no fans); have high mean-time-between-failures (MTBFs) and reliability characteristics; include extensive cyber security features. RuggedCom's local support and service, and short lead times were also contributing factors in the decision to use RuggedCom products.
