The Philadelphia Phillies, in collaboration with Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), hosted a "Science of Baseball" event at Citizens Bank Park for over 1,000 Philadelphia students from grades 3-8. The event, held on May 17, 2023, aimed to blend education with baseball by offering interactive science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities. Students participated in hands-on experiments such as building and launching mini catapults to understand physics principles like force and motion, and explored the science behind baseball through demonstrations on topics like aerodynamics and energy transfer. The event also featured appearances by Phillies alumni Mickey Morandini and Milt Thompson, who engaged with students and shared insights into the sport, enhancing the educational experience with real-life connections to baseball.
