A group formed to increase opportunities for Valley children to learn science, technology, engineering and math has joined a bigger, worldwide team with similar goals.

The article from WFMJ discusses a new partnership between Youngstown State University (YSU) and the Youngstown City School District aimed at enhancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in the Mahoning Valley. This initiative, supported by a $1.5 million grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education, seeks to provide more hands-on learning opportunities for students, particularly those from underrepresented groups. The partnership will involve YSU students and faculty working directly with K-12 students to foster interest in STEM fields, offering programs like summer camps, after-school activities, and teacher professional development. The goal is to not only increase STEM literacy but also to prepare students for future careers in these critical areas, thereby boosting local economic development through a skilled workforce.
