  • The project 'Sodium-Ion-Battery Deutschland-Forschung - SIB:DE FORSCHUNG,' which has now launched, aims to evaluate the suitability of sodium-ion battery technology for the European energy and mobility transition and to achieve rapid industrial implementation.

The German government has allocated €10 million to fund research into sodium-ion batteries, aiming to reduce dependency on lithium and other critical raw materials. This initiative, part of the "Na5Tec" project, involves a consortium of 15 partners including research institutions and companies like BASF and Volkswagen. The project focuses on developing sodium-ion technology to potentially replace lithium-ion batteries in applications where high energy density is not critical, such as stationary storage and possibly in electric vehicles. The funding will support research into new materials, cell design, and production processes, with the goal of creating a sustainable and competitive battery technology in Europe.
