Vitesse CTO Advocates IEEE 1588v2 as GPS Alternative in Communications Networks
Delivers Keynote at WSTS 2013, an Expert Forum Focused on Timing and Synchronization for Critical Network Infrastructure
CAMARILLO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 8, 2013) - [ Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation ] (
As wireless and small cells become pervasive, network operators face new requirements for time synchronization due to the increasing vulnerability of GPS. Dr. Nuss will examine these challenges in mobile networks and explain the criticality of using IEEE 1588v2 as an alternative or backup to GPS timing. He will also outline ways for service providers to ensure highly precise, reliable, and secure packet timing in telecom and other network infrastructure.
Dr. Nuss has over 20 years of technical and management experience and is a recognized industry expert in timing and synchronization for communications networks. Dr. Nuss serves on the board of directors for the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and is a fellow of the Optical Society of America and IEEE member. He holds a doctorate in applied physics from the Technical University in Munich, Germany.
About WSTS
WSTS and its sister conference ISTF in Europe represent a global expert alliance focused on network timing and synchronization for telecommunications and related applications. The forum tackles the most pressing communications network design issues, including the evolving network synchronization requirements, the roll-out of new synchronization systems, the role telecom plays in backing up timing for critical infrastructure: power, finance, communications, etc. and impact on network operators and OEMs.
