For Most, New York City Property Taxes Due January 2 -- NORCROSS, Ga., Dec. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

NORCROSS, Ga., Dec. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Official Payments, a leading provider of electronic payment solutions, wants those who own property in New York City to know that Wednesday, January 2, 2013, is the next due date for property tax payment. While the technical due date is set at January 1 of each year, the actual due date for 2013 is pushed back a day because of the holiday observance on Tuesday.

"However, this year, more than 3,000 homeowners who suffered severe storm damage caused by Hurricane Sandy will receive a special extension," said Alex P. Hart , President and CEO of Official Payments. "Those affected property owners can delay payment three months, until April 1, without penalty."

Properties eligible for an extension were given a red tag by the Department of Buildings after they determined the property was either uninhabitable or totally demolished as a result of the storm.
