Verizon Wireless And The Philadelphia Eagles Team Up To Defeat Domestic Violence

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless and the Philadelphia Eagles will team up once again to help victims of domestic violence in the Philadelphia Tri-State Region. For the ninth consecutive year, fans are encouraged to donate no-longer-used wireless devices and chargers, from any provider, to the HopeLine from Verizon program, this Sunday, October 28, at the Eagles vs. Falcons home game.

HopeLine collection bins will be set-up at the entrance of Lincoln Financial Field as well as the club and suite gate entrances, and employee check-in and press gates. Collections can be dropped off when the gates open at 10 a.m., until kickoff at 1 p.m.

"For these individuals, these phones are more than a communication device; they are often life-saving devices in times of extreme need. We are proud to make contributing easy and convenient so domestic abuse victims in our region can gain a stronger sense of hope."

"Most of us have old devices lying around the house, whether they're cell phones or chargers that we don't use anymore," said Eagles President Don Smolenski. "We are encouraging everyone to spend a few minutes digging them out because together we can make a huge impact. We're proud to say that Eagles fans have donated over 5,000 phones through the annual game-day collections and we're hoping to build on that number this year."

Through HopeLine from Verizon, donations directly impact domestic violence prevention and benefit survivors of domestic abuse in the form of cash grants and pre-paid wireless phones for use by survivors. Since HopeLine launched, Verizon Wireless has collected more than nine million phones. HopeLine also provides an environmentally friendly method for recycling and has kept more than 210 tons of electronics waste and batteries out of landfills, aligning with the Eagles Go Green sustainability initiative.
