WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless today announced that its customers now have access to its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in more places, when the company expands its 4G LTE network today in 38 markets, including the Santa Barbara area, and launches coverage in 34 new markets.

Verizon Wireless first launched its 4G LTE network in Santa Barbara in September 2011. The expanded 4G LTE coverage in the Santa Barbara area includes:

In addition to expanding its 4G LTE network in the Santa Barbara area, Verizon Wireless is also expanding and introducing the network in Redding, California on August 16.

4G LTE Coverage and Speed

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless' 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.
