Citarella S.A. Deploys Blue Coat CacheFlow Solution to Improve Subscriber Web Experience
Argentina ISP Now Provides Higher Quality Web Video Service; Customer Complaints Stopped After Installation
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Feb 8, 2012) - Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (
Citarella's management team understood its subscriber tastes and habits were changing and needed a better solution to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. For example, YouTube traffic had grown to become 25 percent of all the ISP's Internet traffic and Facebook had increased to 15 percent. It was clear the appetite for video and media-rich online applications, particularly from international sources outside of Argentina, were spiraling upward. Faced with a cost/performance challenge, the ISP turned to Blue Coat to provide an effective solution to address the company's bandwidth needs and boost the user experience. Blue Coat's CacheFlow solution provided Citarella with the lower bandwidth costs they were seeking, plus the ISP gained a new level of flexibility to scale its service as they grow, and at the same time, improve its overall subscriber experience.
"As a family-owned business, our number one priority is customer satisfaction," said Julio Citarella, founder of Citarella. "The Blue Coat product gave us the service quality and consistency we needed to gain loyal customers who increasingly watch more videos and access online applications with rich Web 2.0 media, such as Facebook."
"The Cache Flow appliance provides an improvement in customer experience that could not be otherwise achieved, even with increasing our network bandwidth, because of its local content delivery capacity," said Mario Delfino, Citarella's chief technology officer and the one responsible for network and service operations. "We quickly discovered that CacheFlow is an intuitive appliance that easily integrates into our existing network and is a solution we will count on as we grow our subscriber base."
By efficiently and intelligently caching Web content to substantially reduce bandwidth consumption, the CacheFlow appliance can boost the quality of a subscriber's Internet experience. CacheFlow also acts as a "shock absorber" for traffic spikes that occur when Web sites and content become popular over a very short period of time, such as during coverage of a major news, sporting or political event. In addition, CacheFlow appliances can provide protection from malware and unusual traffic as well as URL filtering to meet cultural and regulatory requirements.
Complementary to CacheFlow is the CachePulse service, a highly-intelligent solution that tracks the ever-changing Web, so as new sites emerge or popular sites change the way they make content available, it sends deployed CacheFlow appliances new caching rules and instructions to automatically adjust for the new delivery of content.
"Reducing bandwidth cost while improving user experience with quality and consistency is a win-win for Citarella and its customers," said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president, Blue Coat Systems. "The Blue Coat CacheFlow 5000 appliances provide a dramatic savings. Our breakthrough caching technology meets the rising demand for Web content, especially video."
