Verizon Packs for Pride Program Supports Children This Holiday Season
Employees Donate 600 Backpacks for Children in Texas, Louisiana; Company also gives to D/FW USO
DALLAS, Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- This holiday season, Verizon Wireless employees throughout Texas and Northern Louisiana joined forces to give back to the community through the second annual Packs for Pride program. Employees donated new backpacks filled with personal care items to give to domestic violence agencies in Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Dallas, Harlingen, San Antonio, Shreveport, Temple/Killeen and Waco, giving children helped by these agencies something to call their own to help establish a sense of normalcy in their lives.
In addition, employees in the Dallas/Fort Worth (D/FW) area also donated backpacks filled with small toys and games to the United Service Organizations (USO) in D/FW for children from military families.
Over the past two months, Verizon Wireless employees donated 600 backpacks filled with everyday items including toiletries and small toys. A majority of the backpacks will be distributed to 10 domestic violence agencies in cities around Texas and northern Louisiana including:
- Genesis Women's Shelter in Dallas
- The Noah Project in Abilene
- Family Crisis Center in Rio Grande Valley
- The P.E.A.C.E. Initiative in San Antonio
- SafePlace in Austin
- Women's Protective Services in Lubbock
- Family Support Services of Amarillo
- Family Abuse Center in Waco
- Families in Crisis in Temple/Killeen
- The Providence House in Shreveport
Supporting USO This Holiday Season
In addition, 50 of the backpacks will go to USO D/FW and be presented to the military families and their children at a ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Lewisville, Texas. Verizon Wireless will also present the USO with a $7,000 grant.
