The IET Innovation Awards recognise the most innovative companies operating within a wide variety of engineering and technology disciplines. The ceremony attracted a record 420 entries, each demonstrating different innovations around the globe with a unique opportunity to demonstrate their imagination and recognise the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology.
Professor Mike Short, President of the IET, commented, "The IET Innovation awards offered are an important annual landmark for the IET, illustrating some of the latest and best ideas and designs that align with our core vision of advancing knowledge to enhance and improve people's lives."
"This new single platform offers an extremely flexible and productive embedded systems development environment. It enables access to powerful serial and parallel computing resources creating new choices for designers, for example deferring or removing the need to move to ASICs," the judges also commented.
The Xilinx Zynq-7000 EPP is a family of four silicon devices that combine a complete ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor-based system-on-chip (SoC) with integrated 28nm programmable logic. Each device is a processor-based system, capable of booting an OS from reset without needing to program the programmable logic. It enables system architects and embedded software developers to apply a combination of serial (using the ARM processor) and parallel (using programmable logic) processing to applications that require high levels of performance, while at the same time benefiting from higher integration as a way to reduce cost, power and size.
"This is the second award our Zynq-7000 EPP family has won in Europe since its launch in March and we're thrilled," said Lawrence Getman, Vice President of Processing Platforms. "The unique merging of ARM's dual-core Cortex-A9 MPCore processors and Xilinx's 28nm programmable logic presents a tremendous amount of processing performance – far beyond what traditional processing solutions are able to implement. Furthermore, early adoption customers are very excited about the overall improvements they are seeing through reductions in power, form factor and system costs that has been brought about by this ground breaking integration of complete processing subsystems with world's best 28nm programmable logic. Designers can now use the Zynq EPP as a flexible platform for multiple end products and product revisions."
Zynq-7000 EPP, the industry's first extensible processing platform family, is designed for embedded systems that require high-levels of processing performance. Target markets include automotive driver assistance, intelligent video surveillance, industrial automation, Aerospace and Defense, broadcast and next-generation wireless.
