FREMONT, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ SGI ] (NASDAQ:SGI), a trusted leader in technical computing, today announced that it is showcasing and will demonstrate the [ SGI® ICE Cube® Air ] Modular Data Center (MDC) in booth East 32-34 at the Green IT Expo Japan (GRIX) taking place May 11-13, 2011, in Tokyo at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition hall. SGI is offering special pricing, along with priority shipment and installation, of ICE Cube Air MDCs to attendees and others affected by the recent natural disaster that struck Japan on March 11, 2011.

"Ongoing power shortages and outages remind us all of the need for energy efficiency"

The ICE Cube Air line of expandable MDCs is among the most cost-efficient solutions on the market, meeting the ever-expanding need for more data center space or for emergency mobile operations. Highly efficient fans, along with an innovative four-stage evaporative cooling system, allow the ICE Cube Air to run with outside air and evaporative cooling in most climates, achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio as low as 1.02. Supplemental direct expansion (DX), or chilled water cooling coils, provide an optional backup cooling system. ICE Cube Air uses less than one percent of the water needed by standard water-chilled containers, requiring only a garden hose connection and two gallons per minute of water flow when the systema™s evaporators are in use.

aOngoing power shortages and outages remind us all of the need for energy efficiency,a said Nobuhiko Nakatsu, president of SGI Japan. aWith the ICE Cube Air MDC, customers can rebuild their data center capacity in a matter of weeks instead of many months, and we encourage customers and visitors to this show to speak with us about special pricing and availability of this innovative solution.a

ICE Cube Air MDCs are available starting at four-rack units and scale to configurations containing hundreds of racks, targeting data center needs below a megawatt, between one and four megawatts, and over four megawatts. They can be ordered now for immediate delivery upon completion. SGI also offers turnkey custom data center design-build and delivery support for customers to integrate these units into existing facilities or to build a new MDC at any scale.
