Ixia Validates Cutting-Edge Technologies at MPLS and Ethernet World Congress 2011

PARIS--(Marketwire - February 8, 2011) - [ Ixia ] (
The availability of HSE networks will accommodate the growing volume of service traffic over core networks. Ixia's MPLS emulation, running on Ixia K2 100 GE test interfaces, will demonstrate how HSE interfaces support the same MPLS services extensively deployed in today's 10 GE core networks.
MPLS-TP adds transport-like operation, OAM, and resilience characteristics to carrier-class MPLS technology. This makes MPLS-TP an attractive option for access, aggregation, and backhaul networks that support broadband, business, and mobility services. Ixia's draft standard MPLS-TP emulations will validate OAM, protection switching and recovery, and MPLS interworking.
Carriers attempting to accommodate bandwidth-hungry mobile devices are replacing legacy TDM-based mobile backhaul networks with Carrier Ethernet in order to cost-effectively scale their networks. Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEE 1588v2 are two ToP protocols that achieve the accurate clock synchronization needed to deliver mobile voice over packet-based backhaul networks. Ixia's 1588v2 and SyncE emulations will be used to demonstrate the functionality and interoperability of ToP implementations on multiple vendors' equipment.
Ixia will demonstrate MPLS-TP domain interworking during a guided tour of EANTC's Interop booth on Thursday, February 10 at 10 a.m. and on MPLS services over 100 GE at noon on Thursday. In addition, Ixia's Senior Product Manager Michael Haugh will deliver a paper on A Method to Distribute Clocking over an IP/Ethernet Network at [ MPLS & Ethernet World Congress ] on Friday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m., and on The Role of Verification Tools in the Transition at [ V6 World Congress 2011 ] on Friday, February 11 from 3:30-4:00 p.m.
Key Facts:
- Ixia's IxNetwork was used to perform protocol emulation and traffic generation over its award-winning NGY 10 GE and K2 100 GE load modules.
- Ixia's MPLS and MPLS-TP protocol emulations are being used to verify MPLS-TP 1:1 LSP tunnel protection functionality using bi-directional forwarding detection (BFD) OAM, validate interworking and service delivery between MPLS and MPLS-TP transport domains, and measure protection switchover and recovery time.
Supporting Quotes:
- "MPLS-TP is a promising and important emerging technology that may become the de-facto networking infrastructure standard," said Tara Van Unen, Market Development Manager at Ixia. "This interoperability demonstration reinforces Ixia's commitment to providing equipment manufacturers and service providers with industry-leading network validation tools."
- "MPLS-TP is gaining significant industry attention for its claim to simplify packet transport networks," said Carsten Rossenhövel, Managing Director at EANTC. "EANTC's draft standard MPLS-TP interoperability demonstration provides service providers excellent insight into the current state of vendor implementations and confidence in key development milestones to date."
- "Ixia's MPLS-TP emulation was extremely valuable in demonstrating our ability to successfully stitch together multi-segment pseudowires between the MPLS and MPLS-TP domains," said Jon Berger, Director of Control Plane Technologies from Metaswitch Networks. "Furthermore, Ixia's test solution helped verify our ability to establish OAM sessions -- an important test to showcase as OAM is a fundamental driver of MPLS-TP's momentum."
