Enablence Ships Cutting Edge Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Chips for Next-Gen 120G Transport Networks
OTTAWA, CANADA--(Marketwire - July 19, 2010) - Enablence Technologies Inc. ("Enablence" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:ENA), a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment and multi-services access platform for triple-play residential and business services and optical components and subsystems for access, metro and long-haul markets, announced today it is supplying its advanced PIC technology and products to a global tier-1 customer for its next generation Metro Optical Transport Network System; built to accommodate bandwidth-heavy services at a lower cost and footprint for network operators.
The tier-1 customer is using Enablence's Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) to achieve up to 120Gbps capacity per card while dramatically reducing power consumption and space requirements. Enablence's technology has helped the customer develop its high capacity next generation metro transport system to assist operators managing bandwidth-heavy services such as data, video, and storage, while at the same time, slash operator costs with easy maintenance, energy-efficiency, and space-saving features.
Enablence's PIC technology is based on its proprietary Planar Lightwave Circuitry (PLC), which integrates multiple high speed components into a single optical chip to reduce footprint and costs. This highly integrated PIC technology includes more than 15 layers of wafer processing, which has reduced hundreds of optical parts into one single chip.
Operators worldwide want to achieve fast service rollouts on their metropolitan transport networks, while coping with ever increasing high traffic on their networks.
