Ericsson North America: Ericsson Expands Silicon Valley Presence to Drive Convergence of Mobility and Internet

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - August 11, 2009) - Ericsson (NASDAQ: [ ERIC ]) today announced the formation of a new division headquartered in San Jose focused on IP & Broadband solutions with R&D focused on mobile broadband and Internet convergence. In addition, Ericsson announced the opening of its newest Experience Center in San Jose.

The new IP & Broadband division is responsible for solutions that help service providers transform their legacy fixed and mobile networks to converged full service broadband networks. As the leader in mobile broadband, Ericsson is working with Valley companies and universities in the development and delivery of a new era of the mobile Internet for consumers and businesses. The new era will enable an all communicating world in which there is ubiquitous connectivity of people and devices.

At the campus opening and ribbon cutting ceremony to be attended today by San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, Ericsson President and CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg will talk about the importance of the North American market and Silicon Valley as pioneers in the fixed Internet and the natural synergies that now exist for Ericsson, as the mobility leader, to help develop the next wave of the Internet.
