3 St. Louis area universities earn top research designation

Three universities in the St. Louis area, namely the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), Saint Louis University (SLU), and Washington University in St. Louis, have been recognized with the prestigious R1 classification by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This designation signifies their status as "very high research activity" institutions, placing them among the top tier of research universities in the U.S. UMSL and SLU have recently achieved this status, joining Washington University, which has held the R1 classification for some time.
