  • Indian-origin professor Ganesh Thakur has been named president of the Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science and Technology (TAMEST), becoming the first University of Houston (UH) faculty member to hold the position.

Dr. Ganesh Thakur, an Indian-origin professor, has been appointed as the president of the Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST), marking a historic moment as the first person of color to lead this prestigious organization. With a distinguished career spanning over four decades, Dr. Thakur has made significant contributions to the oil and gas industry, particularly in reservoir management and enhanced oil recovery. He currently serves as a professor of petroleum engineering at the University of Houston and holds the A. J. "Trey" Schnake III '66 Chair. His leadership at TAMEST is expected to foster collaboration among Texas's top scientists and engineers, driving innovation and addressing global challenges.
