The Hawaiian Great Reef Census pilot brings together everyday people, scientists, and cutting-edge technology to gather crucial information on the health of coral ecosystems.

On World Oceans Day, Hawaii joined a global movement to protect coral reefs by participating in the "Plant a Million Corals" campaign, aiming to plant one million corals in the Ala Wai Canal in Oahu. This initiative, led by the nonprofit organization Plant a Million Corals, focuses on restoring the canal's ecosystem, which has been severely impacted by pollution and urban runoff. The event not only highlighted the importance of coral reefs in maintaining marine biodiversity and protecting coastlines but also engaged the community in hands-on conservation efforts. Volunteers, including local residents and environmental enthusiasts, gathered to plant corals and learn about the significance of these efforts in combating climate change and preserving ocean health.
