* Ericsson will provide Japanese operator KDDI with an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) - the foundation for communication services over LTE

Having launched LTE mobile broadband services in September 2012, KDDI now introduces IMS in order to take advantage of the latest technological developments that Ericsson as the technology leader provides globally. By consolidating both wireless and fixed systems, KDDI strengthens the framework for services and will be able to make better use of its resources and optimize both capital and operational expenditure. Ericsson's IMS will also pave the way for KDDI to launch additional services such as Rich Communications Suite (RCS), HD voice over LTE (VoLTE) and video calling over LTE - thereby opening up new revenue streams.
Yoshiharu Shimatani, Senior Vice President, General Manager, Technology Sector, Member of the Board, KDDI, says: "KDDI always strives to provide its subscribers with a superior user experience through constant technological innovation. Introducing IMS will enable us to make the most of KDDI's past investment and launch additional rich services in future. With Ericsson's global leadership in development of new functions for IMS, we will be able to deliver ever better services."
Jan Signell, President and Representative Director of Ericsson Japan K.K., says: "We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with KDDI to provide its Japanese customers with the world's best IMS platform and new services. This contract marks a major advance in our relationship with KDDI and we hope we will be able to develop our partnership with them in many other areas."
Ericsson will provide KDDI with a complete solution including IMS and system integration.
Ericsson has taken the lead in IMS development and implementation based on the technologies accumulated since the telephone exchange era, with inimitable track records in the delivery of top-class IMS solutions.
