Tele2 has signed a frame agreement with Ericsson (NASDAQ: [ ERIC ]), commencing December 2012, for the expansion and upgrade of its mobile backhaul network throughout Europe.

Ericsson will provide Tele2 with its industry-leading MINI-LINK series of microwave radio solutions as well as professional support services and training.

Robert Puskaric, President of Region Northern Europe and Central Asia at Ericsson, says: "We have supplied MINI-LINK microwave products to Tele2 for several years and are pleased to be able to continue to support Tele2's expansion. The widespread use of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, has led to a dramatic increase in mobile network traffic.

One of the key features of Ericsson's MINI-LINK family of products is flexibility; they can be used both to create all-IP networks and in networks that are evolving from TDM to packet technology. The hybrid MINI-LINK TN and MINI-LINK CN can transport native Ethernet and native PDH (plesiochronous digital hierarchy) data over the same hop, which gives cost-effective migration from TDM to packet technology.
