AT&T Donates $20,000 to American Heart Association Charlotte Chapter -- CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T today donated $20,000 to the American Heart Association's Charlotte chapter, the largest donation thus far to the organization's 2013 campaign.

The donation will go to the association's "My Heart My Life" campaign, a movement to educate people on how to get more physically active and make better food choices to prevent heart disease.
"Over the past three years, the importance of good heart health has become very real for me," said State Rep. Becky Carney (D-Mecklenburg). "I am excited about this campaign and am convinced that lives will be saved because of it."
In April 2009, Rep. Carney suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) while at her desk in the Legislative Building in Raleigh. Another lawmaker, a doctor, used an on-site Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to re-start her heart before emergency responders arrived.
"The annual success of our My Heart My Life campaign is due in part to the strong support from our local advocates and corporate partners like AT&T," said Brenda Vass, Senior Director of Development for Heart Walk.
AT&T previously has been an active supporter of the American Heart Association's Heart Walk, with thousands of employees taking part and raising almost $20,000 year-to-date for the Charlotte Heart Walk alone.
Laurent Therivel, AT&T's VP/GM for Mobility and Consumer Markets in the Carolinas, is a member of the Executive Leadership Team for the Heart Walk.
"Maintaining a healthy heart is vital to all around wellbeing and living a productive and rewarding life. AT&T promotes healthy living to its employees, and we're honored to be supporting an organization like the American Heart Association that is doing so much to help others take care of their health," Therivel said. "We look forward to building on today's donation in years to come."
