The enormous bandwidth and high definition transmission speeds enabled by the ViaSat-1 Ka-band satellite system makes the broadcast of breaking stories from the field more convenient, safer, more reliable and more affordable than traditional satellite, microwave or cellular alternatives. The all-inclusive service can provide two-way IP connectivity between reporters and the station no matter the location. Reporters are able to enrich their stories by incorporating images and footage they receive from the station and then upload complete packages, keeping them more productive.
"High-speed Ka-band satellite transmission is very powerful in terms of the performance and cost effectiveness of this new brand of satellite newsgathering," said Jim Casabella, director, Advanced Technology, ABC Owned Television Stations Group. The ABC trials included a Dejero multi-rate video codec.
Exede Newsgathering terminals are available in van mounted or small, suitcase Pro-Portable configurations.
