Sigma Designs Launches Two Media Processors With Integrated Home Connectivity
SMP8680 and SMP8682 Deliver Integrated Home Connectivity With HPNA for Set-Top Boxes in the Connected Home
MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 9, 2012) - Sigma Designs (
"The demand for HPNA is strong in emerging markets both with multi-room STBs and MDU deployments for broadband distribution," said Waheed Rasheed, Sigma Designs' VP of product marketing for media processors. "Our strategy to incorporate integrated HPNA in our secure media processor product line offers connectivity at a reduced cost, a smaller footprint and with lower power consumption. The SMP8680 and SMP8682 also maintain software backward compatibility with the SMP8670 and the SMP8652, easing the migration path for STB OEMs and ODMs."
The new SMP8680 and SMP8682 migrate to a new and improved software SDK4.0 which includes a new porting layer called SAPI (Sigma API) that enables fast time to market porting of Hybrid STB middleware. Implementing SAPI guarantees software compatibility for future SoCs which significantly reduces overhead and improves time to market. Along with the improved software, Sigma Designs proprietary application frameworks for developing Webkit-HTML5 applications or Adobe Air applications and several silicon reference implementations of OTT applications, like Netflix and VuDu, will be offered. This combination offers reduced development time for OEMs and ODMs. The SMP8680 includes an HDMI input port to receive and process HD video content enabling applications such as HD Skype and HD pass through.
The SMP8680 and SMP8682 will be in mass production by December 2012. A demonstration can be seen at IBC booth #BM7 and #BM8 at the RAI, Amsterdam. For more information, visit [ www.sigmadesigns.com ]
