ROANOKE, Va.--([ ])--ITT Exelis (NYSE: XLS) latest sensor fused goggle was one of the must-have technologies among soldiers who evaluated 46 different technologies during the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) at Fort Benning, Ga., earlier this month as reported by the Army Times.

"The AEWE forum allows us to receive invaluable and real-time soldier feedback, which can be applied to current and future night vision technology programs."

The Spiral Enhanced Night Vision Goggle (SENVG) optically overlays thermal infrared imagery and image intensification to enhance soldiersa situational awareness. By combining the strengths of the two night vision technologies, soldiers are able to detect and identify potential threats while maintaining a secure position in various environmental conditions.

aThe successful evaluation of the Exelis SENVG at AEWE reinforces our position as the world leader in night vision technology,a said Nick Bobay, vice president and general manager of the Exelis night vision business area. aThe AEWE forum allows us to receive invaluable and real-time soldier feedback, which can be applied to current and future night vision technology programs.a

Under the companyas new i-Aware a" goggles, an advanced version of the SENVG incorporates proven technology advancements that enable the goggle to transmit and receive real-time video, color imagery, GPS information and other battlefield intelligence. This information can be shared from goggle-to-command post, goggle-to-goggle, or other platforms to enhance command execution and battlefield success. i-Aware goggles connect the soldier to tactical networks enabling new and innovative capabilities to be employed in night operations.

AEWE is an aggressive experimentation with emerging technologies and concepts for the future U.S. Army. The exhibition evaluates product that are currently not fielded. AEWE provides the opportunity for soldiers to test new technologies in combat scenarios to determine what equipment increases the soldieras mission effectiveness.
