MORRISVILLE, NC--(Marketwire - March 1, 2011) - [ Tekelec ] (NASDAQ: [ TKLC ]), the broadband data management company, has been named the "leading independent software vendor in the policy management segment" for two consecutive years, according to research and consultancy firm Analysys Mason. Analysys Mason's findings are published in the new "[ Policy management: facilitating new revenue generation ]" research report and the "[ Tekelec: policy management ]" company profile.

The company's ranking, measured by 2010 global market share, results from [ Tekelec's policy and charging rules function (PCRF) ] deployments spanning 44 service providers -- including 32 tier-one operators -- across 27 countries. These deployments are now reaching more than 280 million subscribers across multiple Vodafone and Telefónica networks, the Verizon Wireless LTE network, the Verizon FIOS network, Comcast and Cox.

"Policy management has become a US $382 million market worldwide, and is forecast to grow to US $1.07 billion by 2015," said Peter Mottishaw, principal analyst, Analysys Mason. "As the leading independent policy software vendor, Tekelec is well positioned to capitalize on its success to help operators implement more advanced revenue generating use cases such as speed boost for premium video and other content services."

In addition to tier-one customer deployments, Tekelec's leadership position was attributed in the report to a "proven track record in delivering large scale signaling networks including next generation signaling protocols such as SIP and Diameter. The investment in scaling Diameter traffic is particularly relevant to policy management deployments." Tekelec launched its [ Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) ] in October 2010 to scale the policy, charging, authentication and mobility management information in all-IP LTE and IMS networks. The report also noted Tekelec's network of 45 interoperability partners which helps ensure that operators can easily and flexibly deploy the PCRF in the world's largest and most complex networks.

"The Analysys Mason reports highlight the broader role of policy management in service differentiation, optimizing content delivery, and easing network congestion," said Susie Kim Riley, chief marketing officer, Tekelec. "By integrating policy management with subscriber data and analytics, our customers can implement innovative use cases such as enriching video, social networking, and machine-to-machine applications."
