MONTREAL, July 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Mitec Telecom Inc. ("Mitec") (TSX: MTM), a leading designer and manufacturer of mobile wireless, fixed wireless, broadcast and satellite components announced today that it has received an order worth approximately $1.5 million to support a European telecom provider's network upgrade.

The contract is for duplexer low noise amplifiers ("DLNA") relating to a GSM network upgrade. DLNAs, which are a core product line for Mitec, are considered to be a key base station component for cellular networks since mobile phone users want to communicate in a form that resembles natural conversation as much as possible. This solution separates uplink and downlink signals between the mobile subscriber and the cellular base station while amplifying the low power signal from the subscribers handset.

When operators wish to add additional network capacity to service the growing wireless market, they make use of wider-band GSM standards but it is often necessary for them to update their radio frequency equipment. Mitec addresses this mobile wireless market need with a host of products in its coverage solution product line aimed at upgrading base stations to increase the capacity of existing networks.

"We are pleased that large telecom equipment providers continue to use Mitec as their preferred vendor for this application, considering the amount of competition in this space", commented Dan Piergentili, Mitec's President and CEO. "This contract also provides further evidence that telecom operators are spending capital dollars again", he said.

The equipment will be manufactured at the Corporation's Suzhou, China facility and delivered in the second quarter of Mitec's fiscal year.
