RCN Holiday Tradition Continues With the Live December 7 Broadcast of the 24th Annual Dream Come True Telethon
LEHIGH VALLEY, PA--(Marketwire - December 1, 2009) - [ RCN PA ], a local provider of all-digital and high definition video, high-speed internet and premium voice services to residential and small-medium business customers, announced today that it will once again team up with local charity [ Dream Come True ] to help raise funds to grant the wishes of seriously, chronically, and terminally-ill children in the greater Lehigh Valley. Dream Come True's annual telethon is scheduled for Monday, December 7 from 6-10pm, and RCN will again play an integral role in its success.
"We are really proud that our long-standing partnership with Dream Come True has become a holiday tradition," said RCN Vice President and General Manager Randy Nungester. "Besides benefiting a great cause, the live auction that will be part of Dream Come True's telethon provides a way for viewers to find unique and meaningful holiday gifts for friends and family."
RCN's Gary Laubach and 69-News [ WFMZ-TV's ] Perla Lopez Baray will return as the telethon's hosts. The four hour telethon, to be held at the Westgate Mall in Bethlehem, will be filmed by RCN's studio and aired live on RCN4 in the Lehigh Valley and RCN8 in the Upper Darby area. Interviews with dream recipients and involved community members will be featured during this entertaining and heart-warming program, along with holiday-themed performances by local school groups and others.
An exciting on-air auction will also be included with items donated by local businesses and RCN's cable partners -- a number quite unique such as autographed Philadelphia Flyers jerseys that were donated by the [ NHL Network ] and tickets to a taping of "[ Inside the Actors Studio ]" that were donated by NBC. Each hour new selections will be up for bid; some featured items will be on display Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 at the Westgate Mall.
Dream Come True's telethon raised more than $92,000 for the charity last year, which helped make dreams come true for 40 children from the local area, including Allentown and Bethlehem.
To make a donation or bid on an item during the broadcast, viewers may call 800.749.8099. The phone line will only be open from 6-10pm. To contribute before or after the telethon, donations may be made through Dream Come True's website at [ http://www.dreamcometrue.org ].
