Aruba Networks, Inc.: Britthaven Deploys Aruba Networks' Wireless LANs Across 60 Skilled Nursing Facilities for Pharmacy Manage

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - September 9, 2009) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ ARUN ]), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that Britthaven, Inc. has deployed adaptive Wi-Fi networks across 60 skilled nursing facilities and retirement homes in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia. The facilities range in size from 37 to 250 beds, and many feature specialized therapy services and 24 x 7 admissions. Pharmacy management and access to clinical documentation are business-critical tasks that require secure, reliable connectivity. Britthaven had outgrown its legacy Nortel wireless networks, which were unable to deliver critical security services and were complex to manage. Moreover, every add, move, or change required the dispatch of an IT technician, an expensive proposition. Following multi-week test deployments with Aruba and two other wireless vendors, Aruba was selected for the project. The wireless network was supplied by authorized Aruba partner, AT&T.

Where Aruba needed just a single controller to secure and manage their network, the competition required a stack of appliances. We wanted multiple encryption options per SSID and a flexible guest access system that could be wholly operated by a receptionist without IT involvement -- the Aruba controller satisfied both of these requirements. Finally, we wanted to simplify and lower the cost of network design and installation. Aruba allowed us to centralize network management at our corporate operations center, eliminating the need for local specialists and enabling us to use electricians to install new access points."

Each of the 60 facilities is equipped with between 4 to 30 access points and a 3000 series controller. The 3000 Series Controllers provide up to 8Gbps throughput and, depending on the model, support up to 2048 users and 512 remote access points. The wireline capability of the controllers extends Aruba's award-winning, identity-based security technology to wired networks, eliminating the need for extra-cost security processors.

To deliver a best-in-class wireless experience, Aruba's Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology lowers deployment and maintenance costs by automating site surveys and using infrastructure-based controls to optimize the performance of Wi-Fi clients in real-time. Acting on their own, Wi-Fi clients do not always work cooperatively with other clients, or select the optimal band, channel, and access point. These issues are exacerbated in settings with densely packed users such as university classrooms, lecture halls and libraries. ARM uses a variety of techniques to control how Wi-Fi clients interact, thereby ensuring that data, voice, and video applications have sufficient network resources, including airtime, to operate properly.
